He faces five charges under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1960, of which one charge is an amalgamated charge pursuant to Section 124(4) of the Criminal Procedure Code 2010.
-
Three inmates were also charged in connection with Asri’s alleged offences.
-
On 10 October 2022, SPS was alerted that Asri had smuggled nude photographs into prison for an inmate in exchange for money.
-
SPS immediately commenced internal investigations into the matter which later revealed that Asri had indeed received money from an inmate for smuggling the nude photographs into prison.
-
SPS referred the case to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) and rendered full assistance to CPIB in their investigation. The officer has been interdicted on half pay, pending the outcome of the case.
-
SPS officers are expected to uphold the law and maintain highest standards of conduct and integrity. SPS takes a very serious view of its officers who break the law. Any SPS officer found to have done so will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law, including being charged in court.
