Inmates are housed in Correctional Units (CUs) within prison institutions, based on assessment of security and their rehabilitation needs.

Correctional Units generally have similar set ups with prison cells, with facilities such as:

  • Recreational yard

  • Dining halls

  • Televisit cubicles

  • Multi-purpose rooms for rehabilitation programmes

Each CU is managed by a team of Correctional Unit Officers (CUOs) who ensure the safe and secure custody of inmates under their charge.

The CUOs also engage inmates to encourage positive changes in their behaviour and attitudes, and provide assistance where needed.

From the onset of incarceration, inmates are encouraged to take greater ownership of their rehabilitation, establishing their personal development goals, and reviewing their rehabilitation progress.
