Family Programmes

Singapore Prison Service (SPS) recognises the important role that family support plays in an inmate's rehabilitation and reintegration journey. Through its family programmes, SPS works to strengthen family relationships and help inmates maintain positive connections with their families during incarceration and as they prepare for reintegration into the community.

Under the Family Engagement Model (FAMe), SPS adopts a structured approach to strengthen family relationships and support inmates in maintaining positive family connections throughout their incarceration and reintegration journey.

SPS provides family-focused programmes and interventions that help inmates develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to communicate effectively, strengthen family relationships and better fulfil their roles as family members.

One of these is Together In Every Step (TIES), a core family programme that supports inmates in:

• Understanding family dynamics

• Building healthier family relationships

• Identifying family-related needs that may require further support

SPS partners community agencies specialising in family services to provide support based on the needs of inmates and their families. These may include:

• Family programmes

• Support groups

• Counselling

• Other family-focused interventions

Family bonding programmes are also organised to provide opportunities for inmates and their family members to interact meaningfully and strengthen their relationships.

Inmates who wish to find out more about family programmes and services may approach their Correctional Unit Officer (CUO) for information on programmes they may be eligible for.
