What is the Desistor Network?

The Desistor Network (DN) is a collaborative initiative by the Singapore Prison Service (SPS) and its community partners that supports ex-offenders in their journey towards desistance from crime and successful reintegration into the community after their release.

This focus on longer-term desistance is particularly crucial, as statistics show that four in ten offenders return to prison within five years of release, which is double the number within two years of release.

Recognising the importance of sustained community support for ex-offenders, the Desistor Network was launched on 15 April 2023 as a partnership between SPS and the community.

The Desistor Network brings together desistors and community partners to build a supportive network where individuals can draw on their lived experiences, support one another and contribute to the wider community.

Through knowledge sharing, training and access to community resources, desistors are equipped and empowered to support others and contribute meaningfully to society.

Yellow Ribbon Cares currently serves as the managing agent of the DN, engaging individuals in the network, coordinating efforts across partners, and sustaining this ecosystem of support.

We believe that desistors have much good to contribute to society. Many have drawn on their lived experiences to turn their lives around and become positive, contributing members of their communities. Yet we know that so much more can be done to support them in fulfilling their potential.

Through the DN, we envision engaging every desistor, connecting and empowering them to contribute meaningfully to the community.
