Board of Visiting Justices
The Board, comprising Justices of Peace, is appointed by the Minister. It is responsible for the inspection of the prisons under the Prisons Department. The main responsibility of the Board is to ensure that the basic welfare of the prisoners is taken care of.
Board of Visitors (DRCs & AIACs)
The Board of Visitors (DRCs & AIACs) is an independent body appointed by the Minister to advise and make recommendations to ensure that the health, maintenance, recreation and discipline of DRC inmates are taken care of and that an efficient standard is maintained throughout each DRC. They also hear out complaints (if any) of the inmates and send any comments and recommendations to the Superintendents of the DRCs.
Drug Rehabilitation Centre Review Committee
The function of the DRC Review Committees is in reviewing cases of inmates who are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at the approved DRCs to determine their suitability for employment, release or extended treatment and rehabilitation.
Home Detention Advisory Committee
The Home Detention Advisory Committee (HDAC) is appointed by the Minister for Home Affairs to review the cases of prisoners who are eligible for Home Detention and which fall within the guidelines to release on home detention. The HDAC is responsible for examining their suitability for release and to make recommendations on cases to the Director of Prisons.
Reformative Training Centre Advisory Committee
The Reformative Training Centre (RTC) Advisory Committee is appointed by the Minister for Home Affairs annually to decide and review cases of reformative trainees as fit for release onto police supervision, review the conditions of the release supervision orders of the reformative trainees, and decide on the need for recall whenever a reformative trainee breaches his supervision order.
Life Imprisonment Review Board / The President’s Pleasure Review Board
The Life Imprisonment Review Board is appointed by the Minister for Home Affairs to review cases of prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment, while the President's Pleasure Review Board (TPPRB) is appointed by the Minister for Home Affairs to review the cases of underaged prisoners who have been detained under the President's pleasure. The role of both Review Boards is to assess the prisoners' suitability for release for recommendation to the Minister.
Anti-Inhalant Abuse Centre Review Committee
The Anti-inhalant Abuse Centre Review Committee’s main function is to review the cases of inhalant abusers who are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at the approved Anti-Inhalant Abuse Centre on their suitability for discharge.
Institutional Discipline Advisory / Review Committee
The Institutional Discipline Advisory / Review Committee is to render an opinion to the Director of Prisons on whether the corporal punishment ordered by a Superintendent on any inmate for committing an institutional offence in penal institutions / DRCs is excessive.
